Businesses Generously Sponsor 13th Annual Madison 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Run on May 1st

Madison, NJ (April 17, 2016) – Businesses in the Madison community and surrounding area have once again come out to generously support the Madison Education Foundation’s (MEF) 13th annual Madison 5K Run, Walk and Kids Fun Run to be held Sunday, May 1st at Madison High School, 170 Ridgedale Avenue, Madison. “New sponsorship as well as continued support from our existing Madison 5K Sponsors is vital to making this event a success. MEF is grateful to this year’s 54 sponsors that have contributed more than $33,000 to the event,” MEF Co-President Clare Sievers says. “A steady increase in event participation over the last several years has meant that registration fees cover all operating costs for the 5K. Every Sponsor dollar we receive explicitly supports our enrichment grants. As a result, Madison teachers and students are directly effected.”

Approved educational enrichment grants impact Madison students at the elementary, junior school and high school levels. Across all five public schools, Madison teachers have been awarded more than $52,000 in educational enrichment grants over the last two grants cycles to date, with an additional grant cycle still to come. “Proceeds from The Madison 5K will help support our upcoming Spring Grant Cycle and assist us in meeting requests from our District teachers,” says Mary Schaenen, MEF co-president.

Pre-registration for Madison 5K is encouraged and is available online at www.mefnj.org or at www.compuscore.com. Check-in begins at 8:30 am; the 5K race starts at 10 am. Kids Fun Runs (10 and under) take place at 11 am on the MHS track. Pre-race stretching, live music and entertainment for children will be provided. Race Bag pick-up will be available on Friday, April 29th from 3 pm - 6:00 pm and Saturday, April 30th from 10 am – 4 pm at Starting Line Sports, 40 Main Street, Madison. Bags can also be picked up on the morning of the race at Madison High School and walk-ins are welcome.

For running enthusiasts, save the date: On Wednesday, May 25th, the Madison Area YMCA will be partnering with Pfizer for The Mind Matters 5K at 5 Giralda Farms, Madison. Check in will be from 5:00 - 6:00pm with the 5K start time at 6:30 pm. At 6:35 pm, a 1 Mile Family Fun Run/Walk will will immediately follow the 5K start. All proceeds from the race will benefit Madison Area YMCA’s Community Health Initiative and Project Community Pride of the Madison Area YMCA.
