"Firefighters were met with a well-involved fire when they arrived," said DeRosa. "It damaged a large portion of the house, and the house will not be able to be occupied for some time."

DeRosa said firefighters found the cat unconscious in the basement furnace room. They utilized a special animal oxygen mask that had been donated to the department to give the cat oxygen. "The cat started to respond after a few minutes," he said. "Firefighters used a clothes basket to carry the cat to a waiting fire department truck that transported it to the Madison Veterinary Hospital for treatment."
