Trump Never Gave Money For Superstorm Sandy As Gov. Chris Christie Claimed
Gov. Chris Christie's spokesman admits he misspoke when he said Donald Trump gave relief money to New Jersey. He apparently did not.

A spokesman for Gov. Chris Christie admits the governor misspoke when he told a group of Republican convention delegates that Donald Trump gave Superstorm Sandy relief money to New Jersey.
The presumptive Republican nominee apparently did not.
“The governor misspoke this morning. Mr. Trump has given to other New Jersey charities, including the Drumthwacket Foundation,” spokesman Brian Murray told Patch.

Christie, a strong ally of Trump, told a story about the devastation of Superstorm Sandy, and how his wife, Mary Pat Christie, had asked Trump for a donation to a New Jersey disaster-relief fund.
“He said, 'How much does the check need to be? Just tell me and I’ll send it,' ” Christie told the crowd, according to an account on northjersey.com.

Christie was responding to questions from The Washington Post and other media outlets that noted that the New Jersey disaster-relief fund did not list Trump among its major donors.
The Drumthwacket Foundation, which cares for New Jersey's historic governor's mansion, has received at least $40,000 since 2010 from the Donald J. Trump Foundation, according to The Post.
A final 2015 report includes 151 people and companies that donated at least $25,000 to the disaster-relief fund, and Trump's name isn't listed, according to The Associated Press.
The IRS also said there were no donations from Trump's charitable foundation to the charity between 2012 and 2014, according to the report.
Christie also defended Melania Trump from accusations of plagiarizing a big part of her speech to the Republican National Convention the night before, according to NBC's "Today" show.
"No," Christie said on the show. "Not when 93 percent of the speech is completely different from Michelle Obama's speech."
