Community Invited to Celebrate The Adult School's 80th Anniversary on Saturday, 10/21

Tricky Tray, 50/50 Raffle, and Silent Auction will benefit The Adult School and ensure that doors remain open for many more years to come.

Adults from all communities are invited to join the non-profit Friends of The Adult School at The Adult School’s 80th Anniversary Gala Fundraiser to be held from 4 to 6 pm, Saturday, October 21, 2017 at the Madison Ambulance Corps building located on 29 Prospect Street in Madison. Proceeds from the Celebration Gala will be used to support The Adult School, and will ensure that it can continue to provide affordable, high-quality, life-long learning programs that are interesting, informative, useful, and fun. The cost is $20.00 per person if tickets are purchased in advance and $25.00 per person if purchased at the door. Each admission comes with five complimentary prize raffle tickets. Additional raffle tickets and 50/50 tickets will be available for purchase at the celebration. Celebration Gala tickets can be purchased online or by calling the office at 973-443-9222.

Exciting Array of Prizes Available

The celebration will include wine and beer, a variety of delicious hors d’oeuvres prepared by the Catering Department of Madison’s nonprofit Thursday Morning Club, and live music by members of the Adult School Jazz Band. In addition, an exciting array of prizes will be available either via silent auction or raffle. Prizes include a Coach Bag, a Kindle, a golf foursome, four tickets to a 2018 NY Yankees game (including parking), theater tickets, restaurant gift cards, a wine basket, signed sports memorabilia, beautiful handcrafted items, tickets to local sporting events and more! A 50/50 raffle will also be held.

The Adult School History

The Adult School has provided exceptional lifelong learning opportunities since its founding in 1937 during the midst of the Great Depression. Courses offered in its early years and through those of World War II included a variety of classes such as knitting, sewing, typing, creative writing, and Italian. As times and the needs of society changed, so did the Adult School offerings. Today’s catalog features over 300 classes including painting, computers, a variety of languages, health and fitness, finance, music and trips. Day and evening classes are held in Basking Ridge, Bernardsville, Chatham, Florham Park, Madison, Warren and Westfield.

Community Outreach – With Special Emphasis on ESL

Special emphasis has been placed on meeting the needs of those whose first language is not English. Thanks to generous grants from community organizations such as the Madison Rotary, Investors Foundation and the Madison Elks Lodge, over 400 people have been able to take English as a Second Language at little or no cost.

Monetary and Prize Donations Welcome

Donations are welcome. The Adult School is a non-profit organization that receives no guaranteed outside financial funding. Tuition and fees do not cover of all the operating costs. The Adult School needs support to continue servicing the surrounding communities. All donations are tax-deductible and greatly appreciated.
