"He’s done a fabulous job," Glatt said. "I've had a great working relationship with him. I wish he wasn’t leaving until I left but that’s the not how the world works. He’s going to be missed."
Glatt said while the position of police chief is by mayoral appointment, he intends to consult the Safety Committee about the choice. He said it will likely be an internal candidate.
He also said this news re-opens the discussion about shared police services. However, as evidenced by the amount of time it has taken the Fire Department to study a merger with the Millburn Fire Department, it is not a process that can be done in 30 days.
"I think ultimately there will be shared police forces," Glatt said. "(Summit's) a prime candidate with some surrounding towns."
