Drew University To Honor Peace Envoy George Mitchell
Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict Will Bestow Peacebuilder Award at May 1 Gala

Madison, N.J. - George Mitchell, the former U.S. Senator and key broker in the landmark Good Friday peace agreement in Northern Ireland, is the guest of honor at this year’s gala for the Drew University Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict.
The Center, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary, will bestow its Peacebuilder Award to Mitchell, who served as U.S. special envoy to Northern Ireland from 1995 to 2001. In that role, he mediated two years of talks that culminated in the signing of the Good Friday agreement in 1998.
As senator, Mitchell represented Maine for 15 years and was majority leader from 1989 through 1994. He also served as U.S. special envoy to the Middle East from 2009 to 2011.

The gala will include dinner and a speech by Mitchell. It will take place May 1 at the Ehinger Center, beginning at 7 p.m.
In recognition of the Center’s anniversary, event organizers will display a Peace Through Perseverance exhibit highlighting events and programs from the past 10 years.

The Center brings students and professors together to hear real-world stories of conflict and resolution, with the goal of fostering cultural and religious cooperation. Its events include symposia, lectures and roundtable discussions.
