Driver Sought in Hit-And-Run Crash That Hospitalized Biker

Incident occurred Saturday night in Mt. Olive; police asking for public's help.

A two-vehicle crash in Mt. Olive over Memorial Day weekend left one man hospitalized and police searching for the driver of a four-door car.

Mt. Olive police responded to the area of Rt. 46 and Cedar Street at 6:41 p.m. Saturday night, and found the driver of a motorcycle lying in the roadway with serious injuries, Officer Michael Russell said. Medical aid was immediately rendered to the victim, identified as Peter Fornarucci, Russell said.

During an investigation, police learned a dark blue sedan, identified as a Honda Accord, was attempting to turn onto Cedar Street from Route 46, and turned in front of Fornarucci, Russell said.

As a result, Fornarucci’s motorcycle crashed into the rear passenger side of the vehicle, Russell said. The Honda fled the scene before patrols arrived, Russell said.

Fornarucci was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center where he was listed in good condition Tuesday afternoon.

Mt. Olive police are asking anyone with information pertaining to a 2003 or 2004 four door, dark blue colored Honda Accord in the area of Route 46 in Budd Lake around the time of the crash to contact them at 973-691-0850.

The vehicle in question may have heavy rear end damage in the area of the passenger side bumper, Russell said.
