The work of artist, Agnieszka Solawa, will be exhibited from April 5th through 30th in the Chase Room of the Madison Public Library. A native of Poland, Solawa grew up in South Africa. Ms. Solawa creates reverse paintings on glass as well as painting on canvas, and is also an accomplished jewelry designer. She studied Fine Art at the Pretoria and Cape Town Universities where she gained her Diploma of Fine Art. She received a BA of Architecture from the University of Cape Town in South Africa. Solawa's reverse paintings on glass were first exhibited in the Gallery of South African Association of Arts in Cape Town. In Paris, France, she studied Graphic Arts at the famous "Atelier 17" under the patronage of Artist William Havter and held a solo exhibition at Circle Saint-Louis of her reverse paintings on glass. While in South Africa, she won a scholarship sponsored by the Italian government to study art and Italian language at the University of Urbino in Italy. Ms. Solawa moved to the U.S. in 1987 and settled in Summit, NJ. Her work has been exhibited at numerous venues in the area, including the NJ Center for Visual Arts, The Renee Foosaner Art Gallery at the Paper Mill Playhouse, the Wisner House at the Reeves-Reed Arboretum, and the Summit Public Library. A reception for the exhibit will be held in the Chase Room on Saturday, April 17th from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The public is invited.
