Joe Kubert, whose remarkable career ranks him among the all-time comic book greats, will be appearing at Dewey’s Comic City, in Madison, NJ, during a very rare in-store appearance on Saturday, June 4th, from 1:00 to 3:00pm.  Mr. Kubert will be meeting fans and autographing copies of his entire body of work, -- including recent additions to the DC Comics’ Joe Kubert Library – Jew Gangster, Yossel: April 19, 1943, and Dong Xoal, Vietnam 1965.

Kubert’s extraordinary career spans the history of the comic book in America: he began drawing comics in 1938 as a pre-teen apprentice and continues to be one of the most vital cartoonists working today, writing and drawing both mainstream comic book characters and, more recently, graphic novels of his own conception.  In 1976, along with his wife Muriel, Kubert founded the JOE KUBERT SCHOOL OF CARTOON AND GRAPHIC ART INC., located in Dover, NJ. The school, which has produced many of today's leading cartoonists, is the first and only accredited school devoted solely to the art of Cartoon-Graphics.

In the 1950s, Kubert was the managing editor of St. John Publications, where he and Norman Maurer produced the first 3-D comic book, Three Dimension Comics #1. During that period Kubert also created Tor, the prehistoric hero who debuted in the St. John title 1,000,000 Years Ago.  During the 1960s & 70s, he was celebrated for his work on such characters as Hawkman, the Viking Prince, Sgt. Rock, Enemy Ace, and Tarzan for DC Comics (where he also worked as an editor).  Kubert has drawn stories for virtually every major publisher over his seven decades in the field.  More recently he created the acclaimed graphic novels, Dong Xoai, Vietnam 1965, Abraham Stone, Fax From Sarajevo, Yossel: April 19, 1943, and Jew Gangster. He has also returned twice in recent years to the character that he is perhaps most known for, the WWII era Sgt. Rock, in two graphic novels: Sgt. Rock: Between Hell and A Hard Place, written by Brian Azzarello, and Sgt. Rock: The Prophecy.

Kubert was inducted into the Jack Kirby Hall of Fame in 1997 and the Will Eisner Comic Book Hall of Fame in 1998.

Now almost 85, Kubert refuses to slow down. Currently, he produces and is the illustrator for the US military magazine ‘P.S. Monthly’ and continues to work on a variety of special projects as well as comic book covers.
