Madison's Siegrist Named Athlete of the Week

Bucknell junior recognized for strong postseason play.

After a strong all-around performance at last week’s Patriot League Tournament, Madison’s Tayler Siegrist added the title of Susquehanna Valley Limousine Bison Athlete of the Week to her 2011 resume.

The junior tallied two goals in Bucknell’s upset over No. 1 American in the semifinals, then recorded a defensive save in the championship game against Lafayette on Saturday. It is the first Bison Athlete of the Week honor of Siegrist’s career.

Siegrist waited until one of the biggest games of her career to record her first-ever multi-goal game. The defender scored twice against American and netted the game-winning goal to send fourth-seeded Bucknell past the Eagles in a 3-2 win.

It was the first time the Bison had ever defeated American on its home turf. It was also the first time since 2002 that the Eagles had lost in the Patriot League Tournament or lost to the same Patriot League team twice in the same season. Bucknell also defeated American 3-1 at Graham Field during the regular season.

After helping the Bison to their first Patriot League Championship game since 2008, Siegrist recorded her third career defensive save midway through the second half. The effort kept it a one-goal game, although Lafayette eventually extended that lead to 3-1 for the title.

Siegrist finished her season with nine points on four goals and an assist. Her four goals tied for second among Bison and was a personal career high, while her three defensive saves was best on the team.

A management major, Siegrist was one of three Bison recently named to the Academic All-Patriot League Team, recognizing her success both in the classroom and on the field.

Bucknell closed out its season with an 8-12 overall record. The Bison entered the tournament as the fourth seed after going 3-2 in Patriot League action.
