Fierce Start for the Madison YMCA Mariners 2017-18 Season
Madison YMCA swim team competed at the Wycoff Fall Frenzy swim meet in early November
The Madison YMCA Mariners swim team started the 2017-18 season off with a bang at the Wycoff Fall Frenzy swim meet on November 4th and 5th. Impressive results were posted across all age groups in a variety of events.
Leading the way with first-place finishes for the boys’ team were Tirian Chang in the 9/10 50-yard butterfly, Collin Faraher in the 11/12 100-yard backstroke, and Brendan Fowler in the open 400-yard individual medley (IM). Chang also placed 4th in the 50-yard freestyle and 6th in the 50-yard breaststroke. Faraher also placed 2nd in both the 11/12 100-yard freestyle and the 11/12 100-yard breaststroke. Fowler placed 5th in the 1000-yard freestyle. There were a number of additional top six finishes on the boys’ team. In the 9/10 age group, Anuthra Abeysinghe placed 2nd in the 50-yard breaststroke and 5th in the 50-yard backstroke. In addition, Owen Smith placed 5th in three events: 100-yard breaststroke, 50-yard freestyle, and 200-yard IM. In the 11/12 age group, Ryan Snarr placed 4th in the 100-yard freestyle and 5th in the 100-yard butterfly, while Owen Weller placed 3rd in the 100-yard backstroke. Rounding out the boys’ team were strong finishes in the open events with Terry Luongo placing 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle and 4th in the 200-yard butterfly, Atticus Chang placing 2nd in both the 200-yard breaststroke and the 200-yard IM, and Kyle Beebe placing 3rd in the 1000-yard freestyle.
On the girls’ team Kaley Snarr had an impressive first place finish in the open 1000-yard freestyle. Snarr also placed 2nd in the 200-yard freestyle. Rounding out the open events were strong finishes by Hannah Corcoran with 2nd place in the 200-yard breaststroke and Isabella Guarino with 5th place in the 500-yard freestyle. Guarino also placed 2nd in the 11/12 100-yard backstroke and 5th in the 11/12 100-yard breaststroke. In the 9/10 age group, Emily Houng placed 2nd in the 50-yard butterfly with Maeve Kelly placing 3rd in the 50-yard breaststroke and 4th in the 50-yard backstroke. Chloe Thorn Lesson placed 5th in the 200-yard IM and 6th in the 50-yard butterfly. In the youngest age group, 7-year old Julia Jadro placed 3rd in the 50-yard backstroke.

Team members Artha Abeysinghe, Amanda Beneventano, Emily Brown, Anya D’Costa, Shane Faraher, Emma Gundlach, Ryanne Henwood, Katelyn Hoffelder, Annabelle Houng, Chris Houng, Tanishka Khanna, Layla Knoll, Sasha Knoll, Aryan Kumar, Gianna Latorre, Anika Lippke, Gwen Lukasavage, Anjali Phadnis, Arjun Ramakrishnen, Vendant Ramakrishnen, Aanya Sood, Jule Schaefer, Kiva Schraven, Emma Straub, Temira Weisberg, and Madeline Zietsman also swam strong races throughout two days of competition.
