Here's a recap of Madison High athletics from Thursday, and what games to look for this week.
Madison goalie Matt Gilbert has made a name for himself as being one of the best goalies in Morris County over the years.
But on Thursday, the senior keeper found a different way to impact the game, as Gilbert struck a free kick from 40 yards out that snuck under the crossbar, helping the Dodgers to a 3-1 win over Dover, according to Madison head coach Frank Nunez.

But Gilbert didn’t only score the Dodgers’ second (and decisive) goal--as well as stop six shots--but he also earned an assist on Madison’s first goal of the day, after he sent a free kick into the box that was knocked past the outstretched Dover goalie by Freddie Wynn.
Madison's third and final goal came late in the second half, as the Dodgers capitalized after Dover brought the entire team on offensive (including the goalie) for a corner kick. Once Madison defelected the cross, Nick Rogers' shot attempt on the empty net bounced off the post. The rebound was put in by forward Anton Benedikt.

Dover's lone goal came in the first half after Gibert was given a yellow card for a hand ball outside the box. Gilbert was taken off the field and Dover's Julian Alvarz fired shot past Madison backup goalie Andrew Wraith.
"[We played] a great game of soccer, Nunez said after the win. “They played with a lot of character and integrity, and even though score reads 3-1, it doesn't show how well Dover played. The game was a lot closer, then the score line."
Girls Soccer Rolls Past Dover
Carolyn McBrady, Emily Beaman and Catherine Zimmerman each scored to surge the Madison girls soccer team past Dover, 3-0, according to NJ.com. Goalie Megan Calcaterra picked up her 11th shutout of the season for Madison (11-4-1).
