Jago, Higgins Are Early-Season Madison Standouts

- ATTACKER
It’s been a tough start to the season for the girls lacrosse team, whose record has fallen to 1-3 early in the year.
While Madison’s record may not be up to expectations, they’ve had a chance to win two of their three losses late, dropping both by just one goal.
The Dodgers’ competitiveness thus far this season is thanks in large part to the play of this week’s Madison Patch’s Athlete of the Week, senior attacker Biz Jago.

Jago has taken an advanced role in the Dodgers’ attack this season, and through four games is averaging two goals and 1.5 assists per game.
Monday, Jago helped the Dodgers to a 7-6 victory over Montville, as she scored three goals — including the game-winner — to go along with four assists and one ground ball, leading Madison to its first win of the season.

Two days later, the Madison captain was at it again as she recorded two goals and one assist in a 13-12 loss to Millburn.
On Friday, Jago netted two goals and dished four assists in a 14-13 loss to Villa Walsh.
- CONNOR HIGGINS
- JUNIOR
- PITCHER
It was his first start on the mound in 2011 and Madison pitcher Connor Higgins made it count.
The Madison junior pitched six innings of one-hit ball, striking out four and walking just one, leading the Dodgers (4-1) to their third straight win, a 4-0 victory over Parsippany.
That impressive performance has earned Higgins Madison Patch’s Athlete of the Week honors.
While he struggled to locate his fastball, Higgins was able to keep the Parsippany lineup off balance using mostly a changeup and slider, and benefited from a solid defensive effort behind him.
Higgins kept the Dodgers streak of impressive starts intact, as Madison hurlers had only allowed one earned run through their first three games.
The junior also helped his own cause at the plate on Monday, going 1-for-1 with an RBI double in the second inning.
