Madison Clinic Dodgers begin Season

By Steve McKenna

Madisons’ Recreation Football Program began its practices the first week of August, as the Clinic squad focused on improving their skills for another successful season.

Their first game was Saturday night 9/6 at the Madison Recreation Center against a formidable Wharton team. Going by past history, the Clinic Coaches knew they had their work cut out for them and Wharton wasted no time in proving them right. With a mixed array of plays and well-timed execution, Wharton jumped out to a quick 13-0 lead before Madison’ Anthony Contessa was able to answer with a long run of his own to the end zone. Gabe Artiglere scored the point after, making it 13-7 at the half.

Both teams had some dazzling runs for long gains and showed a lot of talent defensively as possession of the ball continually changed hands in the second half. It was only until late in the fourth quarter that Wharton struck again, finding room on the outside and scoring the last points of the game, ending it at 20-7.
