Chatham PD: Madison Man Leaves Scene of Crash

Another borough resident suffers minor injuries when his motorcycle was hit in Chatham.

The Chatham Borough Police Department responded to a pair of incidents involving Madison residents April 29.

At 2:41 p.m., Ptl. Daryle Kelly responded to a hit-and-run accident on Center Place. A parked 2008 Jaguar was was struck by a vehicle backing out of a driveway. The latter fled the scene but a witness was able to obtain  license plate information, and the vehicle was located at the owner’s home in Madison. The driver, Eugene Bartell, 69, was charged with careless driving; improper backing into a street; leaving the scene of an accident, and failure to report an accident.

Earlier that day at 1:17 p.m., Ptl. Brian Maher responded to an accident at Main Street and Coleman Avenue. David Gravel, 62, of Madison was stopped in traffic on his motorcycle when he was struck from behind by a van. The van was driven by Dulci Chamberlain, 37, of North Arlington. Chamberlain stated that her foot slipped off the brake when she reached for her cigarettes. Gravel was knocked off the motorcycle and was complaining of pain. Chamberlain was issued summonses for careless driving and failure to inspect her vehicle.
