Madison High School presents Les Miserables

Come see Madison's most talented youth perform one of Broadway's greatest shows!

On Thursday, March 26, Madison High School’s much-anticipated show Les Miserables will open on the High School stage. Madison’s talented high school music director, Caryn Elefante has pulled out all the stops for this spectacular production, with an amazing, multi-layered set, more rehearsal time than ever and a huge live orchestra that includes both professional and top high school musicians. Ms. Elefante says of the production: “Les Miserables is definitely the largest and most challenging musical I have attempted at MHS. I felt confident in my show selection because of the amazingly talented cast I had to work with this year.”

Featuring the Victor Hugo’s famous story of injustice and revolutionary fervor, Les Miserables tells the tale of the virtuous Jean Valjean who emerges from years of unjust imprisonment, to find nothing in store for him but mistrust and mistreatment. Despite frequent acts of selflessness and heroism, Valjean is relentlessly pursued by police inspector Javert, who refuses to believe any man can change his ways. With the backdrop of a revolutionary France, Javert must confront his ideals when Valjean saves his nemesis’ life.

Les Miserables is currently making is third broadway run, and is here presented in an only slightly abbreviated school version, with music by Claude-Michel Schönberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, original French text by Alain Boublil and Jean-Marc Natel and based on the Victor Hugo novel of the same name.
