Madison Mariners Dive into YMCA Region B Silver/Bronze Championships

The Mariners posted impressive finishes at the Silver Bronze Championships/ Region B at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ on Feb 20-21

The Madison Mariners were all over the state of New Jersey on Feb 21-22. Some competed at the New Jersey Silver Bronze Championships/ Region B at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ while others competed at the YMCA Silver Championships at the Gloucester Institute of Technology in Voorhees, NJ.

The Mariners posted impressive finishes at the Silver Bronze Championships/ Region B at Newark Academy in Livingston, NJ in the 8 and Under, Bronze, and Silver heats, with Silver heats requiring qualifying times specific to each event.

After stellar performances at 8 and Under State championships earlier this month, the 8 and under crew continued to put up outstanding results finishing within the top 15 in 14 individual events. Leading the 8 and under group with 1st place finishes were Molly Newman and Sadie Clarke.

Molly Newman drove to the wall as she took 1st place in the 25 freestyle, 2nd in the 25 butterfly, and 3rd place in both the 50 freestyle and the 100 IM. Sadie Clarke shined placing 1st in the 100 Individual Medley (IM), 2nd in the 25 backstroke, and 4th in the 50 freestyle. Riley Snarr also posted superb results finishing 3rd in both the 25 backstroke and 25 butterfly, and 6th in the 50 freestyle. Lucy Waterstredt raced to 3rd place in the 25 breaststroke, 5th in the 25 butterfly, and 13th in the 50 freestyle. Chloe Thorn Leeson took 4th place in the 25 butterfly, 6th in the 50 breaststroke, and 7th in the 25 breaststroke. Caroline Monks swam to finish 5th in the 50 freestyle, 9th in the 25 butterfly, and 10th in the 25 backstroke. Owen Smith led the 8 and under boys with a 2nd place finish in the 100 IM, 3rd place in the 25 backstroke, and 5th in both the 25 freestyle and 25 breaststroke. Anuthra Abeysinghe posted impressive performances with a 2nd place finish in the 50 breaststroke, 4th in the 25 breaststroke, 5th in the 100 IM, and 12th in the 50 freestyle. Oscar Bruu-Syversen shined with 4th place finishes in both the 25 freestyle and 25 butterfly, and 6th in the 50 freestyle.

Bronze
Mariners swimming in the Bronze heats finished within the top 15 in 28 individual events. Owen Weller and Jule Schaefer were Bronze heat 1st place finishers for the Mariners.

Jule Schafer (10&U) swam to finish 1st in the 100 breaststroke and 11th in the 50 freestyle. Julia Ulrich (10&U) placed 4th in the 50 butterfly, 7th in the 50 backstroke, 8th in the 50 freestyle, and 12th in the 50 breaststroke. Elena Latorre (10&U) took 3rd place in the 50 freestyle, 7th in the 100 freestyle, and 11th in the 50 butterfly. Katelyn Hoffelder (10&U) drove to 2nd in the 50 freestyle and 12th in the 50 backstroke. Mary Gillen (10&U) raced to 3rd in the 50 butterfly and 10th in the 50 freestyle. Ryan Sprague (10&U) swam to 5th place in the 50 breaststroke. Sophia Clarke (10&U) finished 6th in the 50 breaststroke. Owen Weller (10&U) sprinted to 1st place in two events, the 50 butterfly and 100 freestyle, while taking 2nd in the 200 freestyle. Oscar Bruu-Syversen (8) placed 3rd in the 10 and under 100 butterfly. Gwen Lukasavage (11-12) touched the wall 2nd in the 100 freestyle, 4th in the 100 butterfly, 6th in the 50 freestyle, and 7th in the 100 IM. Sofia Danzo (11-12) placed 6th in the 200 backstroke, 11th in the 200 freestyle, and 14th in the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle. Kalina Kornacki (11-12) finished 4th in the 100 IM, 7th in the 50 butterfly, 10th in both the 50 breaststroke and 50 backstroke, and 13th in the 100 freestyle. Maura Feron (11-12) placed 14th in the 200 freestyle. Chloe Lemos (11-12) took 15th in the 200 IM. Adam Scher (11-12) placed 4th in the 200 backstroke, 5th in the 200 IM, and 10th in the 100 freestyle. Kevin Ulis (11-12) swam to 7th in the 50 butterfly and 12th in the 100 breaststroke. Nate Creamer (11-12) placed 9th in the 200 freestyle, 14th in the 50 freestyle, and 15th in the 50 breaststroke. Chris Huong (11-12) took 13th in the 100 breaststroke.

Silver
Swimmers in the Silver heats placed within the top 15 in 12 individual events.

Ryan Sprague (10&U) swam to 5th in the 50 free, 11th in the 50 backstroke, and 14th in the 100 backstroke. Sophia Clarke (10&U) finished in 6th place in the 100 backstroke and 8th place in the 50 backstroke. Ryan Feron (10&U) raced to 3rd place in the 500 freestyle, 6th in the 50 breaststroke, and 7th in the 50 backstroke. Owen Weller (10&U) continued his streak placing 5th in the 50 backstroke, 7th in the 100 backstroke, 11th in the 50 freestyle, and 13th in the 100 IM. Gwen Lukasavage (11-12 ) continued to shine placing 10th in the 200 backstroke and 14th in the 200 freestyle. Caroline Fabiano (11-12) took 10th place in the 200 breaststroke.

The Mariners next meets are championship qualifying meets
• Feb 27-28 12 and Under State Championships at the Ocean County YMCA in Toms River, NJ
• Mar 10-13 NJ YMCA 13 and Over States at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA
• Mar 18-20 NJS 14 and Under Junior Olympics at Rutgers University in Piscataway, NJ
