"Looking back I think that it must have been my exposure to the Boy Scouts’ that introduced me to uniformed service," Trevena said in an interview. "I can remember having a clear vision of serving either as a police officer or in the military.  Back then I remember the police officers always seemed to be from our neighborhood, but we did have an awful lot of them who actually did live in the neighborhood.  I also remember that you did not want to get picked up by an officer and brought home, because the punishment at home was going to be far worse than anything the court system could do to you!"

"The thought of standing for a set of values really struck a chord with me that, I guess, I have carried throughout my life. It is an honor for me to have been selected to receive the life time achievement award. I can only hope to positively impact the lives of others, as so many have done for me."
