Madison Rec Varsity Dodgers Roll Over Roxbury 32-0

By Steve Mckenna

John Denver couldn’t have said it better because it was good to be back home again for the Varsity rec Dodgers on Saturday night at the MRC.The 3-1 Dodgers rolled out the welcome wagon for the Gaels of Roxbury amidst the misty fog and kept on rolling to a resounding 32-0 win.

Madisons’ offense, led by QB Ryan O’Rourke, was unstoppable, racking up over 100 yards per half. The O line was like a tsunami that just surged through the Roxbury defense, paving the way for Jayson Candelaria to score twice, one from 25 yards out and the other for 52 yards. Anthony Contessa also scored with a nice run from the 50 behind fine blocking by Joey DeMarzo, Joaquin Izzo, Tim Andersen, Aniello Vacchiano, Skyler Pastro and Nate McKenna. The night belonged to Brayton Boyer, who had two consecutive touch down runs from the 50 both called back due to penalties, only to punch it in minutes later on his third attempt, this time from the 10. Boyer was perfect in double duty capacity as the Dodger placekicker, going 4 for 4 after each score; setting off a barrage of accolades by the tag team announcers of Conroy and Conroy. The game ended on a decisive goal line stand by the Dodger defense that preserved the shutout and improved their record to 4-1. Next week its goodbye again as the Dodgers get back on those country roads and travel to Mendham on Sunday afternoon.
