Madison Students Awarded National Merit Scholarships

Congratulations Owen Matthews and Joe C. O'Connor!

MADISON, NJ — Two Madison High School students were awarded National Merit Scholarships. Owen Matthews and Joe C. O’Connor were awarded the scholarship for outstanding academic potential.

They are part of the first round of winners in the 62nd annual national Merit Scholarship Program, which awards corporate and foundation sponsored scholarships to over 1,000 high school students.

Matthews plans on pursuing a career in government, and O’Connor plans on entering computer science. Both of their awards were sponsored by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation's own funds.

To be considered for a scholarship, students had to complete a detailed application, which included an essay, information about extracurricular activities, a school official recommendation and high SAT scores.
