Madison YMCA Mariners 8 and under team finishes strong at State Championships
The 8 & Under Madison YMCA Mariners swim team concluded their regular season on February 4 at the N.J. Y.M.C.A. 8 & Under Championships

The 8 & Under members of the Madison YMCA Mariners swim team concluded their regular season on February 4 at the N.J. Y.M.C.A. 8 & Under Championships hosted by the Somerset Hills YMCA Swim Team at Raritan Valley Community College. The Mariners were proudly represented by the twelve members of the boys’ and girls’ teams eligible for this event.
Leading the way on the boys' team was eight-year old Tirian Chang who won the 8 & Under 25 yard Butterfly, while also taking 6th place in the 50 yard Freestyle and 8th place in the 100 yard Individual Medley (IM). Sean Clark took 3rd place in the 8 & Under 25 yard Breaststroke and had top twenty finishes in both the 25 yard Freestyle and the 25 yard Butterfly. Trevor Ledon was 11th in the 8 & Under 25 yard Backstroke and 12th in the 25 yard Breaststroke. Declan Roberston finished 13th in the in the 25 yard Breaststroke. Both Charles Hilgendorf and Jack McLoughlin posted strong swims in multiple events

In addition to their individual events the Boys relay teamed to place 6th in the 8& Under 100 yard Medley and 8th in the 8 & Under 100 yard Freestyle relay.
On the girls’ side, Maeve Kelly and Chloe Thorn Lesson both posted three top-ten finishes. Maeve was 2d in the 8 & Under 25 yard Breaststroke, 7th in the 25 yard Freestyle and 9th in the 50 yard Freestyle. Chloe took 5th in the 8 & Under 25 yard Butterfly, 6th in the 100 yard IM and 7th in the 25 yard Breaststroke. Madison Virella finished 10th in the 8 & Under Butterfly. Eliza Burnett, Samantha Fehir and Emery McDonough concluded their seasons with good races in several different events.

In addition to their individual events, the Girls relay team placed 7th in the 8& Under 100 yard Medley and 12th in the 8 & Under 100 yard Freestyle relay.
