MADISON, NJ – The Madison Police Department is fighting crime through community engagement by hosting the annual National Night Out Against Crime.

On Tuesday, Aug. 6, residents throughout Madison and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights, and spend the evening with neighbors, the Madison Police Department, the Mayor and Council and as well as other borough departments -including the Morris County Sheriffs Office, Fire Department, EMS, Public Works and Electric Utility Department.

According to officials, National Night Out is an annual community-building campaign that promotes strong police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods safer, more caring places to live and work. National Night Out enhances the relationship between neighbors and law enforcement while bringing back a true sense of community, organizers said. Officials noted it provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

National Night Out, a yearlong community building campaign, is designed to:

  • heighten crime prevention awareness
generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime programs
  • strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships
  • send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back

This is a night for America to stand together and promote awareness, safety, and neighborhood unity. National Night Out showcases the vital importance of police-community partnerships and citizen involvement in our fight for a safer nation. On NNO, we invite neighborhoods nationwide to join us and “give crime a going away party."
