Madison's Weenies T-Shirt Causes Controversy: Report

Complaints about the apparel appropriateness for employees at the hot dog eatery mars opening day, according to a CBS report.

MADISON, NJ - Not all residents in Madison welcomed Weenies, the new hot dog joint at 145 Main Street, with open arms as the appropriateness of employee t-shirts was called into question, according to a CBS report.

The Madison location employees sport the same uniform as their Denville counterparts, a black shirt with the name of Weenies and the phrase "grab yours here" below it with an arrow pointing down to the eatery's website where orders for pickup and delivery can be placed.

According to the report from CBS, some were enraged by the supposed sexual innuendo. Co-owner Michael Dey, whose wife Kaidi helped design the shirts, said that the meaning was in the eye of the beholder.

"They should lighten up a little bit,” Dey told CBS. “We don’t wake up in the morning with bad intentions."

Weenies is not the Dey's first restaurant. According to a report from North Jersey.com they were Subway franchise owners before opening Fattys in Morristown, which specializes in fat sandwiches. Fat sandwiches contain permutations of various foods, such as burgers, French fries, cheese steak, mozzarella sticks, chicken fingers, pork roll, marinara sauce, falafel, gyro meat, bacon, fried eggs, ketchup, mayonnaise all inside the sandwich bread.

Weenies menu offers similarly dressed versions of hot dogs, with toppings like cheetos, mac'n cheese, pulled pork and peanut butter.

Dey told CBS they sold more than 50 of their t-shirts on opening day for $20 each and now have to order more.
