Mariners YMCA Swim Team Shines at East Field Championship Meet
Madison Mariners had successful swims at the 2018 YMCA East Field Championship Meet held on December 7-9 in Princeton
Anya D’Costa (16) and Kaley Snarr (16) led the charge in the 15-18 year age group. Anya had a 2nd place finish in 50 Free at a time of 25.70, a 4th place finish in 100 Free at 56.73, a 5th place finish in the 100 Back and a 6th place finish in the 200 Back. Kaley took 2nd in the 1000 Free with a time of 11:22.65 and 3rd in the 500 Free at 5:28.91, as well as placed 3rd in the 200 Free and 9th in the 100 Free. Brendan Fowler (18) had two top ten finishes, including 5th place in the 200 Fly at a time of 2:10.26 and 6th place in the 100 Fly with a time of 57.79.
In the 13-14 age group, Kyle Beebe (14) had a stellar performance with three first place wins in 50 Free at a time of 23.95, in 100 Fly at 59.51 and 200 Fly at 2:12.86, as well as a 3rd place finish in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:37.38. Atticus Chang (14) took 2nd place in both the 100 Free with a time of 53.60 and the 200 Fly at 2:19.49, as well as 4th place finishes in 50 Free and 200 Back. Also in this age group, Owen Weller (13) raced to two 5th place finishes in the 100 & 200 Back with times of 1:03:34 and 2:18:00 as well as an 8th place in the 200 IM. Collin Faraher (13) took 4th in the 1000 Free at 10:46.87 and 7th in the 200 Breast at 2:37.94. Ryan Snarr (13) turned in a 6th place finish in the 200 Back with a time of 2:18.53 and an 8th place finish in the 50 Free. Artha Abeysinghe (14) also took 7th in the 1000 Free.
In the 11-12 age division, Mary Gillen (12) had several top ten wins including placing 1st in the 100 IM with a time of 1:10.15, 2nd in the 50 Fly at a time of 30.05 and 3rd in the 200 IM at a time of 2:32.84. Katelyn Hoffelder (12) had three top ten finishes, including 3rd place in the 200 Free with a time of 2:17.98, 6th place in 100 Free at 1:01.88 and 10th in 50 Free at 28.75. Ryan Sprague (12) had two 9th place finishes which included the 100 Breast at 1:24.02 and the 100 IM at 1:13.17, along with two 10th place finishes in 50 Free and 100 Free. Sadie Clarke (11) finished 10th in the 100 IM at a time of 1:13.37 and Molly Newman (11) had a 10th place finish in the 200 Free at 2:23.64. Emily Houng (11) took 10th in the 100 Fly with a time of 1:20.35.

Boys in this age group also had outstanding swims. Owen Smith (11) took 6th in the 200 IM with a time of 2:43.72 and 7th in the 100 Breast at 1:24.24. Ransom Chang (12) finished 6th in 50 Free with a time of 29.18, 7th in both the 100 Free at 1:04.23 and 50 Breast at 37.36, as well as 8th in the 100 IM with a time of 1:12.76.
Swimmers in the 10 and under age group also impressed. Notable races included a first-place
finish from Tirian Chang (10) in the 100 IM with a time of 1:16.08, a 2nd place finish in the 50 Fly at 32.83, a 3rd place finish in the 50 Free at 30.77 and a 4th place finish in the 50 Breast at 42.96, along with other top 10 finishes. Sean Clark (10) finished 2nd in both the 200 IM at 2:48.96 and in the 100 Back at 1:15.20, and had two 4th place finishes in the 100 Breast and 100 IM, along with other top ten placements.

Other team members who turned in strong performances, many of whom earned personal best in their races included: Anuthra Abeysinghe, Alison Barton, Keira Clarke, Nate Creamer, Emma Dougherty, James Dougherty, Sarah Dougherty, Will Foucher, Annabelle Houng, Christopher Houng, Aiden Kagan, Aryan Kumar, Elena Latorre, Anika Lippke, James Lord, Ethan Lu, Terence Luongo, Juliana McGrath, Grace Mulligan, Sarah Penrice, Daniel Posy, Declan Robertson, Anya Rodrigo Candappa, Yannick Rodrigo Candappa, Kiva Schraven and Aanya Sood.
