METC to Host Holocaust Survivor for Virtual Lecture

The Holocaust Council of Greater MetroWest NJ provides resources and information to educate the community about the Holocaust, striving to honor both those that survived and those that perished during this horrific period. Throughout the area, the Council is a leader in Holocaust education, implementing programs and commemorations for the community and carrying out programming in public, private and parochial schools through the Survivor Speaks Program. This moving program features a Holocaust survivor, or second or third generation survivor (children or grandchildren of survivors) telling their story in an interactive conversation with the audience.

METC is honored to have survivor, Fran Malkin, as our speaker. Malkin was born in Sokal, Poland in 1938. In 1939, Russia occupied her town. Under Communist rule, her family’s properties were taken away and strangers occupied their home. In spring 1941, Germany invaded and occupied Sokal, ordering all Jewish men between the ages of 16-60 to report to the town square. Four hundred Jewish men, including her father, were taken to a brick factory and shot. Fran was only two years old. The family was later forced into the ghetto, and in the fall of 1942, the family went into hiding.

Museum of Early Trades & Crafts, Explore American history with a focus on the life and stories of 18th- and 19th- century craftsmen and artisans. Drawing on its rich collection, METC is connecting the lives of people and their stories, while providing a bridge from the past to the future. Housed in a stunning Richardsonian Romanesque Revival building donated by D. Willis James to the people of Madison, NJ in 1900, METC offers something for visitors of all ages. Regular METC admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for seniors, students & children 6 and older, and free for members and children under 6. Family maximum admission $15.00. METC is open Tuesday – Saturday 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. and Sunday Noon to 5 P.M. Closed Monday & Major Holidays.
