MLB Pitcher Covering Pet Adoption Fees At Madison Animal Shelter
New York Mets All-Star pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, Erica, are sponsoring adoption fees at St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center.
MADISON, NJ — New York Mets pitcher Max Scherzer and his wife, St. Hubert's board member Erica Scherzer, are helping dogs find their forever homes.
The Scherzers have offered to pay the adoption fees for all dogs weighing more than 30 pounds who are adopted from St. Hubert's between now and Sunday.
The shelter is currently full, with over 40 dogs waiting for homes, and the Scherzers want to encourage adoptions, according to Diane Ashton, director of communications.

"Most of the dogs are large dogs and many of them have been with us quite for a while, just hoping to find homes," Ashton said. "The need is great, so their offer couldn’t have come at a better time."
The shelter is also looking for fosters who can temporarily open their homes to shelter animals.

Anyone interested in adopting a shelter animal can view all available animals on St. Hubert's website, according to Ashton. Adoption counselors are always available to answer questions and assist families in finding the perfect animal, Ashton said.
"Max and Erica Scherzer are dedicated animal lovers and supporters of St. Hubert’s. They have rescue dogs of their own and are very committed to helping shelter pets," Ashton said.
For more than 80 years, St. Hubert's Animal Welfare Center has assisted animals in need, regardless of species, size or temperament. The Madison location, 575 Woodland Ave., is open for adoptions daily from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
