Most Boro Crime Declines: FBI

Burglaries show only significant increase in borough, according to annual nationwide data.

The FBI today released its Uniform Crime Reports for crimes in the United States, and borough statistics showed overall improvement.

Madison had just five violent crimes in 2010, down from 14 in 2009. There were two forcible rapes, up from one, but no cases of murder or manslaughter, unchanged from the previous year. There were no violent robberies compared with four, and just two cases of aggravated assaults, down from nine in 2009.

There were 118 instances of property crime in 2010, off from 131 in 2009.

In 2010 there were 35 burglaries, up from 18 the previous year, and 83 thefts/larcenies, down from 106. There were no motor vehicle thefts or arson a year ago, down from seven thefts and one reported case of arson in 2009.
