National Night Out Returns To Madison Next Month

MADISON, NJ — This summer, the Madison Police Department will host a night of family fun at the community National Night Out event.

The community event will be held on Waverly Place on Aug. 2 from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Waverly Place will be closed to traffic so that residents, young and old, can participate in National Night Out.

National Night Out is an event that aims to improve relationships between neighbors and law enforcement while also restoring a true sense of community.

It is intended to provide an opportunity for police and neighbors to work together in a positive setting.

"Residents throughout Madison are asked to lock their doors, turn on their outside lights, and spend the evening with neighbors, the Madison Police Department, the Mayor & Council and as well as other borough departments – including the Morris County Sheriffs Office, Fire Department and Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps," officials said.

Last year, the following organizations joined, and the Madison Police Department expects to add even more attractions, food options and vendors this year:

• Free Kona Ice
• Live music from Rock & Roll Russo
• Madison Fire Department, including their antique fire engine Geraldine
• Madison Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
• Morris County Hope 1 Van
• Morris County Sheriff's Department, including Eddie the Eagle
• Morris County Communication, who will be registering residents for AlertMadison
• NJ Department of Corrections
• TransOptions
• Project Pride
• Madison Chatham Coalition
• Jersey Battered Women's Shelter
• Child ID Cards
• Max Challenge

The goal of National Night Out is to strengthen the bond between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The initiative, which began in 1984, promotes crime prevention activities, community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie.
