No Dummies: Madison Police Get Medical Training

The American Heart Association provided training on first aid, CPR and AED usage for adults and infants.

MADISON, NJ - Members of the Madison Police Department and Electric Department participated in the American Heart Association's training on first aid, CPR and AED usage for adults and infants.

According to officials, this training is beneficial, as it gives first responders the ability to safely administer and start CPR, cardiopulmonary resuscitation. There is a big difference between CPR and AED, automated external defibrillator, training even though both are usually covered in the same class. Unlike CPR which only pumps blood to vital organs, the AED is the machine that can restart the heart.

An automated external defibrillator is a portable electronic device that automatically diagnoses the life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias of ventricular fibrillation and pulseless ventricular tachycardia, and is able to treat them through defibrillation, the application of electricity which stops the arrhythmia.
