Pearl and Julius Young Music Competition

Mei Stone wins competition for 16-22 year olds

On March 11, 2018 the Pearl &Julius Young Music Competition was held at The College of Saint Elizabeth in Morristown, NJ. This marked the tenth anniversary of the Competition sponsored by The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey. It is open to talented young classical musicians between the ages of 16-22. Ten musicians participated in the final round of the Competition on Sunday. The First Prize winner was flutist Mei Stone of New York. She is currently a student at The Juilliard School of Music studying with Robert Langevin principal flutist of the New York Philharmonic. Ms. Stone was awarded $1000 and will be a featured soloist with The Baroque Orchestra of New Jersey at their annual Summer Music Festival to be held at the College of Saint Elizabeth in August. The Second Place winner at the Sunday Competition was Sherwin Pan of Edison, NJ. Third Place went to Kei Otake of Short Hills, NJ. Two Honorable Mentions were also awarded to Kelsey Lee of Summit, NJ and Sa'eed Abuwi of Wilmington, Delaware.
