Police Arrest Three in Car Break-In at Drew Campus

Multiple charges allege trio used stolen cash, credit cards to make purchases.

Following a three-week investigation, Madison Police Det. John Miscia arrested Megan Mincica, 18, of Cliffside Park; Mike Alvarez, 20, of North Bergen, and Nicholas Lopez, 21, of Ridgefield Park, in connection with the alleged break-in. None of the three was enrolled at the school, and were not authorized to be on campus at the time, police said Thursday.

The police were first contacted March 29 by a man who reported his vehicle had been broken into while parked at the campus of the Madison school. He said that his wallet, cash, and credit cards were stolen from his vehicle.

An investigation determined that the accused allegedly used the stolen credit cards to purchase personal items totaling several hundred dollars in Madison and Paramus, where they were apprehended on separate charges. Drew public safety personnel assisted in the investigation.

Mincica, Alvarez and Lopez were charged in Madison with burglary, theft, conspiracy, criminal trespass and credit card fraud. They were remanded to the Morris County Jail after failing to post $50,000 bail. No other details were immediately available.
