Smith Scores Twice But Dodgers Fall in Quarters
Madison's run ends in bid to upset Mountain Lakes.
The Madison boys lacrosse squad fell to top-seeded Mountain Lakes in the North 1 quarterfinals, 8-5, on Thursday in Mountain Lakes.
IN SHORT
After starting the season 0-5, the Dodgers regrouped to forge a 10-9 record and earn a No. 8 playoff seed and an opening round win over Robbinsville. Madison looked to spring an upset on the road against North 1 top seed and perennial lacrosse power Mountain Lakes in the sectional quarterfinals. On a hot day, the teams battled in a back-and-forth game as the Dodgers matched the Lakers goal for goal thanks to Chad Smith, who scored two goals on six shots. As he had all season, goalie Brett Anton kept Madison in the game with 15 saves. But the Lakers used a fourth-quarter offensive barrage lead by Tim LaBeau whose three goals in the game's final five minutes gave Mountain Lakes the 8-5 victory and ended Madison’s Cinderella run.
