Students To Share Green Vision For Madison At Forum

School green teams will present at the Madison Environmental Commission's second annual Green Vision Forum March 14.

MADISON, NJ - For the second time in as many years, students from Madison’s elementary, junior and high schools along with college students from Drew University with be the focal point at the Madison Environmental Commission's second annual Green Vision Forum.

The program is scheduled for Thursday, March 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the Ehinger Center at Drew University. Once again, the stars of the evening will be

“Just as we did at last year’s first ever Green Vision Forum, we’ve asked school green teams and science classes to choose two students to make short presentations about their vision for a greener Madison,” said Madison Environmental Commission member and event organizer, Renee Shalhoub. “It’s a chance for youth to lead the way.”

Last year’s forum featured presentations on short showers, bike swaps, reusable water bottles and idling at school pick-ups, among other topics. The forum was recognized with an Environmental Achievement Award from the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions (ANJEC).

Mayor Robert H. Conley, as well as Council Members and town officials will attend this year’s Forum where they will share their thoughts on the student presentations.

“After last year’s outstanding presentations, I look forward to hearing what this year’s group of Madison students will present,” said Conley. “The knowledge and creativity that these students have, allows us all to gain a deeper understanding of environmental issues, which Madison cares deeply about."

Conley will lead off the Forum with an introduction and welcome.

“I’m looking forward to this year’s Forum and hearing the kids’ brilliant ideas,” said Council Member Maureen Byrne, liaison to the Environmental Commission. “It’s exciting to see this level of enthusiasm from our students and future leaders."

All are invited to bring their family, friends and neighbors. This event is family friendly, and refreshments, as well as coloring supplies will be provided.
