Summer Enrichment Camp at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts

Our interactive and hands-on summer camps use the museum’s exhibits, collection and building as inspiration for a wide range of art and history-based one and two day camps in July and August. Each camp runs from 10am – 2pm. METC’s Education staff is excited to offer three different themed weeks of camp! STEM Week: July 12-July 14

Tuesday July 12th: Science Day at the METC

Explore the wonderful world of science at the Museum of Early Trades & Crafts. Through a series of science challenges, campers will explore weather by creating a tornado in a bottle, discover different states of matter using slime, and much more! Appropriate for 1st Grade and Above in September.

Wednesday July 13th: Technology Day at the METC

Learn to code with educators at METC! Campers will be introduced to the fundamentals of coding without the use of computers! At the end of the day, share what you created with your family and friends using special coding sequences! Appropriate for 1st Grade and Above in September.

Thursday July 14th: Engineering Day at the METC

Join our METC Educators as we delve into the exciting world of engineering! Campers will solve problems and explore solutions using engineering principles through a series of interactive challenges. Appropriate for 1st Grade and Above in September.

Art Week: July 19- July 21

Tuesday July 19th: Architecture at the METC

Explore the museum’s historic building to learn about various styles of stained glass and architecture, griffins and gargoyles. Discover the differences between form, function, and decoration. Campers will create stained glass and take-home parts of the beautiful METC building in the form of stenciling and rubbings. Appropriate for Kindergarten and above in September.

Wednesday July 20th: Textile Exploration

Campers will take part in a variety of crafts and activities using fibers and fabric. Working with real lamb’s wool, participants will learn the old-time art of wool-felting and make a felted toy to take home. They will also view a selection of the Museum’s collection of textiles, including quilts, and work with quilt pieces. Other activities will include fabric collages and making dream pillows or catnip toys. Appropriate for 1st Grade and Above in September.

Thursday July 21st: Jewelry Making

Participants will learn the craft of jewelry-making. Campers will create designs for their jewelry and make several pieces of jewelry crafted from “found” objects brought in from home, and from different food items—apple and orange seeds, cinnamon sticks, dried pasta, beans, etc. Appropriate for 1st Grade and Above in September.

Career Week August 9 & 10th

Tuesday August 9th: Historical Careers Day at the METC

Join us at METC to explore 18th century trades and crafts and the different jobs people held in the past. Participants will refine their tin smithing skills and bring home a working lantern and learn some master woodworking expertise! Appropriate for 2nd Grade and Above in September.

Wednesday August 10th: Emergency Responder Day at the METC

Be part of this exciting day at METC for an exploration on what it takes to be an Emergency Responder! View the museums Emergency Responder exhibit, meet a firefighter and an EMT while exploring their fire truck and ambulance. Other activities include crafts celebrating our emergency responders. Appropriate for Kindergarten and above in September.
