"Sweet Sounds of Silver" - Dessert & Jazz Celebrates 25 years of Sweet Music
Madison Music & Arts Dessert & Jazz Fundraiser - Saturday, February 28, 2015
Madison Music & Arts (MMA) welcomes you to join us for a night of “Sweet Sounds of Silver” at the 25th Anniversary Dessert and Jazz Fundraiser on Saturday, February 28, 2015 at 6:30 pm at Madison High School, 170 Ridgedale Avenue. The event features jazz ensembles from Madison Junior School and Madison High School, along with individual performances. In keeping with tradition, Dessert and Jazz begins at 6:30 pm with dessert and beverages held in the high school cafeteria. Student musicians from Madison High School will entertain guests as they enjoy delicious homemade desserts, provided by friends of the arts programs from our Madison community, along with a selection of beverages. Helen Raymaker, President of Madison Music & Arts says, “Dessert and Jazz has enjoyed great community support over the years. We have a large group of over 50 bakers who make the desserts from scratch, and student servers who support the talented performers that evening. I love this celebration of the arts in Madison schools.” Stacy Snider, Supervisor of Visual and Performing Arts and World Languages adds, “Dessert and Jazz is truly a unique event that the students look forward to every year. From solo jazz singers to a rhythm and blues band, the cabaret portion of the evening is both entertaining and delicious, given that dessert is also provided!” Following dessert, the festivities continue in the auditorium with a jazz concert featuring the Madison High School and Madison Junior School jazz ensembles. For the second year in a row, there will be a Student Art display in the lobby as you enter the festivities, showcasing MMA’s commitment to all of the arts in Madison. According to Russ Batsch, Director of Bands at Madison High School, “The Madison Avenue Jazz Band looks forward to this event all year. It’s a great showcase of our students’ love for Jazz.” Leo Sabatino, Madison Junior School Band Director adds, “Dessert & Jazz is one of my favorite concerts of the year. Not only does it showcase the Junior School and High School Jazz Bands, it is also a great opportunity for the community to see soloists and small group performances in a relaxed setting, while eating desserts. Who doesn’t love great music and great desserts?!” MMA fundraising efforts have benefited music, art and theater programs throughout the district. Recent contributions by MMA include an upgraded Timpani at Madison Junior School; additional choral risers at Kings Road School; staging components, used district-wide at events like Bottle Hill Day, Dessert & Jazz and by the elementary schools; funding the new MHS art club, in partnership with New View Home Exteriors; sound equipment for Central Avenue School’s multipurpose room; and participation in The Memory Project, through the Advanced Art class. Tickets are $20 per person for the entire evening of entertainment. Reservations are strongly recommended as this event has a history of selling out.
