Several members of the Thursday Morning Club gathered at the Madison Community House to support the new statewide NJSFWC (New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs) NAMI initiative. This particular initiative of
supporting the National Alliance for Mental Illness involved members donating full-size backpacks or money towards the purchase of them and then filling them with personal items such as socks, reusable water bottles, notepads, thermal mugs, and towels.
Each backpack was designated for a man or a woman and then distributed to local hospitals for discharged patients who are referred to a shelter which houses those with mental illness by NAMI officials. The “Backpack Project” will be ongoing through May 2016. Members will set aside a day each month to bring filled backpacks to the Madison Community House.
The Thursday Morning Club is a member of both the New Jersey State and General Federation of Women’s Clubs.
