TMC Celebrates National Nutrition Month

"Savor the Flavor of Eating Right" with Monica Hansen, RD

In recognition of March being designated National Nutrition Month, The Thursday Morning Club invited guest speaker Monica Hansen, Retail Registered Dietician to their March 3rd General Meeting. Ms. Hansen spoke on this year’s theme ”Savor the Flavor of Eating Right”.

Ms. Hansen received her undergraduate degree in Nutrition Science at the New Brunswick campus of Rutgers University and completed her one year, 1200 hour supervised practice program at Montclair State University. Upon completion of the supervised program she accepted a position with the Women, Infants and Children Program in Atlantic City helping underprivileged women and children reach and maintain nutritional status. For the past two years she was the instore dietician at ShopRite of Chatham Township and is currently working at the ShopRite of Greater Morristown, Cedar Knolls, where she offers complimentary one-on-one consultations to all shoppers and holds programs in the store as well as in the community.

In her presentation to the Thursday Morning Club members Ms. Hansen spoke about healthy food choices and substitutions, understanding what package labeling tells the consumer and introduced us to new products on the market. To the delight of the members, she prepared and served several savory dishes, a quinoa salad, beet and brussel sprouts salad and muffin meatloaf, ending with a healthy version of dark chocolate brownies.
