On a beautiful sunny Memorial Day, sixteen Thursday Morning Club members participated in the Madison Memorial Day parade (not pictured are Eleanor Flanigan, Francesca Gooby, Anne Meyer, Marilyn Musielski, Barbara Shine, Sharon Silver, Olga Soriano, and Marie Toto). There were 3 walkers and 13 members who rode in the gazebo (decorated with the TMC banner), kindly provided by the Toto family.
This year and for the last few years, at the ceremony after the parade, the Thursday Morning Club, represented by Anne Lawless, has been proud to give awards to six graders from the Madison Junior School and St. Vincent’s for the best essay and best artwork on the subject of patriotism.
This year there were ties for first in both the essay and art categories. The essay winners were Mark Fedyna for “Recognition of the Selfless, Honoring Those Who Serve” and Emily Page for “Memorial Day”. The arts winners were Avnee Arora and Kathryn Then. Mark and Emily read their essays, well-written and thoughtful, noting selfless actions each of us can take to remember fallen military, especially those unknown, and Avnee explained her creative patriotic drawing, with emblems from each branch of the military overlayed on an American flag. Kathryn Then was unable to attend; her drawing was a lovely flower with the words, “Remember the brave, remember the selfless, remember those who gave so much so we didn’t have to live in fear”.

Organized in 1896, the Thursday Morning Club, a social and non-profit service organization with 235 members, owns, operates, and maintains the Madison Community House and its Pre-school and Before and After School Child Care Program. The Club offers programs and services to support the community, and its Community House provides a home for a number of sports, recreation, and civic groups.
