'Uncle Sam's Avengers' to Hold Fundraiser for Paralyzed Morris County Marine

Beef Steak Dinner set for June 19 includes food, beer, and live music.

Whether they know each other or not, military personnel consider themselves family, a band of brothers.

That camaraderie is showing itself yet again in Morris County, as Uncle Sam’s Avengers Motorcycle Club is stepping up to help a fellow soldier who suffered a life-changing injury.

The group, which has stepped in to help fundraise for other military members in need, will be holding a Beef Steak Dinner fundraiser on June 19 at The Russian Hall at 4 Woodhull Avenue in Little Falls to assist Nick Taylor, a Marine from Chester.

Taylor, who graduated Mendham High School and attended Rutgers University for a year, left college for the military in May 2014, and became a Marine by November 2014 after graduating all training.

Just three weeks after he began further training at Twenty-Nine Palms in California, tragedy struck, as Taylor and his fellow Marines were in a devastating car crash, which left the 21-year-old paralyzed from the waist down. He also broke his sternum, multiple ribs, suffered a ruptured spleen, a broken hand, and a complete crush to his T4/T5 vertebra.

Taylor returned to New Jersey in mid-December for rehabilitation at Kessler Rehabilitation Center in Chester, and is currently undergoing treatment at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington D.C.

After hearing about Taylor’s circumstances, the Avengers, a non-profit comprised of military veterans founded in 2009, decided to step up and help in whatever way possible.

The Beef Steak Dinner will include food, beer, and live music, and run from 6 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $45 per person and can be purchased online through PayPal or in person by calling 973-265-2865. Find out more about the event here.

The Taylor family, including Nick, will be in attendance for the June 19 event. All proceeds from the event will go directly to Taylor and his recovery effort.
