Few Details After Madison Police Officer is Placed on Leave

There are few details being released by the borough after a veteran Madison police officer was placed on administrative leave.

Madison Police Chief John K. Trevena ordered Sgt. Peter Iossa placed on paid administrative leave Oct. 28. That means Iossa continues to earn benefits and annual salary of $103,619 as a patrol sergeant and shift supervisor. He joined the force in July 1988 and was promoted to sergeant in November 2003. 

Depending on the outcome of the investigation, Iossa could return to the force without the loss of accrued time for vacation and pension, said Borough Administrator Ray Codey.

Codey did not comment further.

Iossa, a 23-year veteran of the force, was honored this year by the state as the leader in drunk driving arrests in Morris County. He was earlier cited for heroism for helping save two children from drowning while on vacation at Point Pleasant in 2008.

Iossa did not return multiple phone calls from Patch seeking comment. Matt Giacobbe, an attorney for the borough, was not immediately available for comment. Union Local 92 of the P.B.A., which represents borough police officers, also did not immediately respond to messages.

Trevena in a phone call did not comment on the case, citing confidentiality requirements in borough personnel matters.
