1 Dead After Man Barricades Himself In Bergen Home: Prosecutor

The Bergen County Regional SWAT Team was called to Elmwood Park on Tuesday. One man surrendered to police, another has died, officials said.

ELMWOOD PARK, NJ — A Bergen County man barricaded himself inside an Elmwood Park home on Tuesday morning, resulting in a standoff between himself and a SWAT team. One man, Ronald Vicari, is dead, and another has turned himself in to police.

The Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and the Elmwood Park Police Department are investigating a death that occurred at 24 Beechwood Ave. around 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

Local police responded to the address around that time after receiving a 9-1-1 call of an "incident" at the residence. Responding officers were told there was an injured individual inside the residence and that another individual had barricaded himself inside the home, prosecutors said.

The Bergen County Regional SWAT Team was called, and after a short period of time, a male occupant of the residence surrendered to police and was taken into custody. Officers entered the home and discovered a deceased elderly male victim, identified as Vicari, prosecutors said.

The investigation is underway, and no further information is available at this time.
