The contractor was performing work at a home when the ground underneath gave way, causing the crane to overturn.

The crane damaged the roofs of two homes. But no injuries were reported, Wisse said.

The River Vale Fire Department, Building Department, and a crew from PSE&G responded to the scene to secure the area and ensure it was safe.

Crews were still working as of 3:15 p.m. to clean up the area and assess the extent of the damage, police said.
