BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A corrections officer was arrested and charged Thursday with receiving images of child sexual abuse, authorities said.
Stephen Salamak, 37, of Lodi was arrested at his home by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and homeland security personnel, acting U.S. Attorney William E. Fitzpatrick announced.
Salamak used email to find and get images of child sexual abuse, including images of prepubescent children, Fitzpatrick said.
Salamak was charged with receiving child pornography and released on $125,000 unsecured bond, Fitzpatrick said. He is confined to his home and his location is being monitored electronically.
Salamak faces a minimum prison sentence of five years, with a maximum penalty of 20 years, and a $250,000 fine.
Fitzpatrick credited the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office and federal homeland security and immigration and customs agents with the investigating that lead to Salamak's arrest.
