Bergen County Coach, Gas Station Owner, And Crossing Guard Dies

He recited his 12 brothers' and sisters' names weeks before he died. A service will be Sunday for a Bergen County coach and crossing guard.

NORWOOD, NJ — A Bergen County coach, Scout leader, gas station owner, crossing guard, and brother of 12 siblings died on Thursday, according to his obituary.

Larry Grassi, 87, of Norwood, died at home, his obituary says. He grew up on a farm in Norwood, founded a youth soccer league, and two service stations, and was known for helping friends out of a jam with his 1947 tow truck, his obit says. He worked as a crossing guard in later years, and in his final days, he was sharp enough to recite his siblings' names from memory — in birth order.

Services for Grassi will be held Sunday and Monday. Read more about him and his adventures and service here.
