Bergen County Doctor Charged With Healthcare Fraud

Mark Schwartz, 49, allegedly submitted fraudulent bills to Horizon Blue Cross and falsified medical records, authorities said.

A Bergen County doctor is accused of submitting fraudulent medical bills to an insurance company and falsifying a patient's medical records, said Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes.

Mark Schwartz, 49, is an Osteopathic physician with offices in Passaic and Park Ridge. In October 2015 and April 2016, Schwartz allegedly submitted fraudulent billing to Horizon Blue Cross for patient visits and exams that never occurred, Valdes said.

Schwartz, of Park Ridge, is also accused of falsifying a patient's medical records after he became an aware of the investigation conducted against him by the Insurance Fraud Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, Valdes said.

Schwartz was charged with four counts of healthcare claims fraud, two in the second degree and two in the third, and falsification of medical records, the prosecutor said.

Schwartz faces a maximum of more than 31 years in prison if convicted on all five charges filed against him.
