Bergen County Firefighter Killed In Crash Involving Intoxicated Teenager: Police

Frank Stetz, 48, was killed when his motorcycle struck a van was being driven by an intoxicated 17-year-old near Toms River, police said.

A Wallington firefighter was killed when his motorcycle collided with a car on the Garden State Parkway Saturday night, police said Sunday.

Frank Stetz, 48, was killed when his motorcycle struck a van that an intoxicated 17-year-old near Toms River, said Sgt. Jeff Flynn of the New Jersey State Police.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Police did not give an exact location of where the accident occurred.

The teenager was charged with driving while intoxicated, Flynn said. Additional charges are pending.

A funeral service for Stetz is scheduled for Friday at Warner-Wozniak Funeral Service in Wallington.

Wallington Mayor Mark Tomko told The Record that Stetz was a "happy-go-lucky guy and enjoyed life" and that "it's so sad that it had to end in such a tragic way."

Tomko said in the report that Stetz was a motorcycle enthusiast and was "very dedicated" to the department.
