Bergen Diner Owner Bilked Credit Card Companies Out Of $138K: Police
Sanjiv Kumar, 46, made purchases with his credit cards and then reported them stolen months later, police said.

PARAMUS, N.J. — A Paramus man was arrested after he allegedly charged more than $138,000 on credit cards in an investigation dating back to 2014.
Sanjiv Kumar, 46, the owner of the Schuyler Diner in Lyndhurst, reported to police in June of 2014 that several of his credit cards were fraudulently used four times, said Chief Kenneth Ehrenberg.
Paramus Detective Robert Brack and Bogota Police Detective John Misskerg looking into those incidents and learned that Kumar made purchases on the cards and then reported them stolen several months later, Ehrenberg said.

The majority of the $138,000 in purchases were made at Restaurant Depot stores, a wholesale retailer and foodservice supplier, the chief said.
Kumar was arrested at Paramus Police headquarters Jan. 27 and released on his own recognizance, Ehrenberg said. He was charged with theft, hindering apprehension and making false statements to authorities.
