Two Bergen County volunteer firefighters got into trouble recently for including their municipal firefighting jackets in a wedding invitation they posted on Facebook earlier this month.
Paul Mellor and Danielle Szep are members of Garfield Fire Company 1. Szep posted the photo on March 17 and then, something unexpected happened: They were told to take it down.
Company Chief Mike Colon told Mellor that if Szep didn’t take the invitation down within an hour she would be suspended, NorthJersey.com reported. Mellor was allegedly told by Fire Chief James Kovacs to take the post down.

Mellor said the post had to come down because of a new policy that wasn’t clearly explained to the couple and doesn’t explain very clearly what can or cannot be posted on Facebook, according to the report.
Mellor has volunteered with the department for six years, Szep for seven, the report stated.

Mellor said at a council meeting March 22 that he plans on posting pictures from his “traditional fire department wedding” on social media to show that he has pride being a member of the department, according to the report.
The wedding is May 21 in Teaneck.
Danielle Melissa Szep and myself would like to thank everyone for the wonderful support and we hope this problem will be fixed
