Bergen Hamburger Joint Named Among Top 100 In U.S.

The historic Hackensack diner-style joint was ranked

BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A "North Jersey legend" has been named to The Daily Meal's list of 101 Best Burgers in America.

White Manna of Hackensack is one of the "last remaining diner-style burger joints" to come out of the tradition of White Castle, the website said.

"What’s served here is the perfect interpretation of that form, honed over decades and decades, unchanging," the website said."Walk up to the tiny counter, place your order with the grillman, and watch as he smashes a small wad of meat onto the flattop with a handful of thin-sliced onions, keeps careful track of it as it cooks, and sandwiches it into a Martin's potato roll."

Make it a double with cheese, and the burger that will end up on your plate next to some pickle chips won’t be pretty, but it’s astonishingly delicious, the website said.

White Manna is routinely named to such lists.

Conde Nast Traveler recently named it one of the "5 New Jersey sandwiches to eat before you die."
