Betsy Ross School To Get New Roof, Doors

District considering facilities upgrades at other schools, too

Students heading to in September should expect a spruced-up school building. Both the doors in the building and a section of its roof will be replaced over the summer, district business administrator Ed Deptula said at Wednesday night’s Board of Education meeting.

The improvements are part of a two-year upgrade plan. Last year, the district installed new windows up and down the hallways of Betsy Ross. “That helped tremendously with heating and cooling of the building,” Deptula said.

This year, the district is planning to replace doors in the building, which Deptula said “are in bad need of replacement,” and the roof in the old section of the building, which he said will be “replaced in its entirety.”

The board approved two contracts for the work Wednesday night – an $89,717 contract for the doors, which includes one window replacement, and a $98,630 contract for the roof. Both contracts were awarded to companies who offered the lowest price when the district went out to bid for the projects.

According to Deptula, both projects will be completed over the summer, “with time to spare,” before the 2012-2013 school year begins. In the meanwhile, the district is working on plans for facilities improvements in its other five schools.
